With the development of the mining technologies and techniques, the drilling equipment is being upgraded and improved all the time in order to satisfy the requirements of high intensity mining. It is developing towards the direction of high capacity, high revolution and intelligent automation. Currently, the long hole drill is commonly used in metal mines in China and overseas. The author of this paper found that during work, due to the increase in hole depth and drilling rotation speed, especially in areas with fractured ground conditions, the friction between drill rod and orebody in the process of drilling is relatively high. This results in difficulty of the drill rod centralizer in working with feed and rotation of the drifter to change the drill rod. Meanwhile, the structural components of the drill rod centralizer are vulnerable parts and the failure rate is high. At the beginning of drilling a hole, as there is no guidance for the drill rod centralizer or the guidance location is not adjustable, the drill hole will deviate so the accuracy of the drill hole is not high.The drill rod centralizer is one of the most important composition parts on the drilling rig, its function is to prevent the drill pipe from sliding at the normal drilling and unclamping drill pipe meshed with the rotary mechanism and feed mechanism at the replacing time. As the tripping work speed of the drilling rig and connection work strength of single drill pipe increased, the proportion of unloading drill pipe is also improved accordingly. So it is significant for the performance, drilling efficiency and drilling quality of the whole machine to study the new drill rod centralizer. The main research items are as follows:(1)After referring to relevant domestic and foreign documents on drifters, this thesis analyzes in detail the structure and theory of various drill rod centralizer and makes proposal to improve the drill rod centralizer to meet the practical and theoretical requirements.(2)Structural design for the drill rod centralizer. Design calculation is made for the crucial structure components based on the long hole drill parameters and actual site conditions to determine the optimum matching size for the housing and piston rod. Meanwhile, investigation into the hydraulic system functioning as guidance system is carried out to identify the type of hydraulic components and the pressure set value.(3)Solidworks is used to model and simulate the drill rod centralizer. Finite element analysis and kinematics analysis to the crucial components of the drill rod centralizer are carried through ANSYS and ADAMS. Optimization improvement is made based on the analysis results.(4)Finally, underground test to the improved drill steel is carried out with the results showing it is reliable in performance and superior to the old drill rod centralizer in drill steel installation and removal efficiency and drill hole deviation.
