The indole derivatives have been extensively studied because of its important biological activity and photoelectric effect. Sulfenylated indoles and benzothieno[2,3-b]indole, categorized as significant derivatives of indoles, are broadly found in functional building blocks medicinal chemistry. The wide spectrum of therapeutic value of numerous sulfenylated indoles has been revealed to have dramatic effects on bacterial infection. Benzothieno[2,3-b]indole has important value for the research of organic electroluminescent materials due to its unique electronic effects. At present, the synthetic method for the 2-sulfenylindoles and benzothieno[2,3-b]indole were rarely reported. Therefore, it is very meaningful to explore novel efficient methods for the synthesis of these two kinds of compounds. The main contents of this paper are summarized as follows:In the first chapter, the development of the study on the synthesis of 2-sulfenylindoles and benzothieno[2,3-b]indole were reviewed in recent years.In the second chapter, reported the study on the synthesis of 2-sulfenylindoles by transition metal catalysis. A novel and efficient strategy for synthesis of 2-sulfenylindole via copper-catalyzed coupling reaction of indoline-2-thione with aryl iodides has been developed under an nitrogen atmosphere, a series of 2-sulfenylindoles compounds were obtained by using CuCl as the catalys. We developed a novel synthetic strategies which was high atom economy.In the third chapter, reported the synthesis research of benzothieno[2,3-b]indole base on indoline-2-thione. Benzothieno[2,3-b]indole was synthesized from indoline-2-thione and 2-(trimethylsilyl)phenyl trifluoromethanesulfonate. In addition, these compounds were also synthesized via the coupling cyclization of dihalide substituted arene and indoline-2-thione in the presence of CuI and Pd(OAc)2 as catalysts...
