Some problems have been found such as the worse tolerance of high shear rate, temperature, and high salinity in its application. In order to solve the problems, hydrophobically associating water-soluble polymer was synthesized, a guidance could be provided for prcactical application throughing it’s performance researching.Acrylamide(AM) and octadecyl acrylate(SA) were used as monomers, the surfactanting agent was sodium dodecyl sulfate,the evocating agent was ammonium persulfate,the hydrophobically associating water-soluble polymer P(AM-SA) was synthesized by the experimental method of micellar free radical polymerization,the infrared spectrometer was used to analyze the structure,the intrinsic viscosity and viscosity-average molecular weight were measured by ubbelohde viscometer,the viscosity was measured by viscometer in different conditions.The influencing factors such as reaction temperature,initiator surfactants and monomer concentration were studied, the results showed that:when the reaction temperature reach to 55℃ and monomer concentration, with evocating agent and surfactanting agent respectively were 0.25wt% and 3wt% of total mass of reactive monomers,the molecular weight of the product could be up to 106 magnitude,The water solubility of P(AM-SA) was studied, the results showed that:the polymer was insolubled in water when F(SA) was more than 1.42mol%.The relation between hydrophobic structural unit content F(SA) and critical association concentration was studied, the results showed that:the polymer’s critical association concentration was 0.015g/ml when F(SA) at 0.22mol% and 0.78mol%,the critical association concentration was 0.01g/ml when F(SA) at 0.48mol%.When F(SA) at 078mol%,the critical association concentration was increased by reason of the solubility’s decrease of P(AM-SA).The relation between F(SA) and the viscosity of polymer solution was studied, the results showed that:the viscosity was increased at first and then decreased, the viscosity could be up to maximum when F(SA) at 0.48mol% in the range of F(SA) at 0.1mol%,0.22mol%, 0.48mol%,and 0.78mol%.After 30 minutes of shearing with the rate of 309.9s-1, the viscosity of the polymer solution could gradually return to 94.6% of the initial value, it showed good shear reversible.The temperature resistance and salt tolerance of the P(AM-SA) were studied, the results showed that:when temperature from 10℃ to 80℃,the viscosity of polymer’s retention respectively were 25%,27.7%,35.4% and 25% with the range of F(SA) at 0.1mol%, 0.22mol%,0.48mol%,and 0.78mol%.When the polymer’s F(SA) at 0.48mol%, it showed better temperature tolerance than F(SA) at 0.1mol%,0.22mol%,and 0.78mol%.The viscosity of polymer’s retention was high with the salinity from Owt% to 5wt%.,when F(SA) at 0.48mol%,the polymer showed salt tackifying, it showed better salt tolerance than F(SA) at 0.1mol%,0.22mol%,and 0.78mol%...
