Azo dyes are widely applied in industry, which accounts for 80% of the dye wastewater. There are many treatment methods of dye wastewater. However, traditional methods are diseconomy, and the treatment effects are poor. Thus, development of new type of dye wastewater treatment technology has a great practical significance. Complexation extraction is efficient, reversible, environmental, cheap and easy to achieve solvent reclamation. Meanwhile, acid dye wastewater contains sulfonic acid groups, inorganic acids and salts, which can lead to many serious environmental problems. To sum up, complexation extraction used for acidic azo dyes wastewater treatment possesses great research value. In this paper, brilliant red B, direct pink were used as the research objects. The effects of various factors in the process of extraction and back extraction were studied, and the recovered extractant was recycled. Meanwhile, the loss of water phase amine and the energy consumption in the extraction process were also analyzed. Finally, the thermodynamic analysis of two kinds of azo dye extraction process was accomplished, and the associative mechanism was also analyzed by infrared spectroscopy The main results are as below:Firstly, the effects of various experimental conditions on extraction and reverse extraction of single azo dye brilliant red B solution were studied.,And the optimum conditions of the extraction and reverse extraction were found.Secondly, the effects of the various experimental conditions on extraction and reverse extraction of double bound key azo dye direct pink solution were investigated. Under the same conditions, the rates of extraction and that of reverse extraction of the direct pink were all less than those of brilliant Red B solution.Third, both of the recovered extractant were recycled, and the extraction rate was not significantly decreased.Fourth, a small amount of trioctylamine existes in raffinate phase, and the loss of the extractant can be reduced by increasing the concentration of complexing agent.Fifth, the energy consumption can be reduced in the case of with high concentration azo dye solution.Sixth, the two kinds of extraction process of azo dye are exothermic reaction, and the methods of association are ionic association.
