Fabric Pattern Design And Application Research Based On The Fractal Theory

Pattern is a combination of applied and artistry form which relates closely to people’s life. It’s part of clothing, and it can decorate and beautify the clothing. New design ideas for pattern come along with the development of technology. Designers can use design methods which differentiate with the traditional to process some special design and creation, like using mathematics curve and formula to create pattern.This article researched the creation method about garment printing pattern based on fractal theory to seek a feasible approach for clothing pattern design.The article firstly analyzes the basic principle and feature of fractal artistic pattern via reading numerous such documents and books. Then the article uses scientific visualized method to modify the theoretic model by combining fractal theory, in which mainly analyses the generation principles and patterns’ features of complex dynamic system and L-system fractal pattern.Through theory creation and design improvement, we invented two kinds of artistic patterns – Flower and Geometry.The flower artistic pattern by complex dynamical systems includes full color flower patterns and non-full paper-cut flower patterns which are created by improved color program. Using L-system fractal theory can invent countless geometrical artistic patterns which follows some particular rules. On this basis, this article redesigns and applies these artistic patterns into clothing pattern design. And it uses MATLAB program design software to program and invent particular style artistic pattern, then redesigns and re-processes the patterns by using Photoshop to make out printing patterns which could be applied into clothing fabric. At last, it applies designed patterns via the digital printing technology into the silk scarves and clothing fabric design. This fully shows the practicability and advantage of clothing pattern design based on fractal theory. Practices has proven that it is very feasible to design clothing fabric printing pattern based on fractal theory, whose designed fantastic artistic pattern has considerable practical value.
