With the rapid integration of infor mation technology and manufacturing technology, the virtual manufacturing technology is generating, which prom otes the developm ent of mechanical cutting process sim ulation technology.However, due to the com plex features of grinding wheel’s physiognomy, it m akes the res earch of the grinding progress simulation developed slowly.At present, the simulations about the process of grinding are based on the plane grinding of single diamond grits as the research object.In fact, in the process of grinding, there are many variational grinding grains removing material. So it has a great significance to build a more accurate grinding wheel m odel.In this paper, it developes the dialog to create a 3D grinding wheel based on the research of grinding wheel topography, and does the simulation of two-dimensional cylindrical grinding in consideration of the random height of the grinding wheel surface.The main works and results can be showed as follows:(1) Based on the analysis and the summary of grinding simulation at hom e and abroad, study the grinding m echanism by t he reference of plane grinding theory, deduce the the related physical quantities in the process of gr inding; construct the m echanical model of the grinding wheel and workpiece system in consideration of the moving load effect,which makes the larger deformation than the interaction produced by a static load.(2) Do the analysis of the grinding wheel topography by using a high m agnification microscopy. It indicates the grind ing wheel surface is m ade up of random distribution of irregular polyhedron, and creates virtual sand model interface using the cube as a basic form of abrasive through the UG/Open to write c++ language.(3) Do the sim ulation of two-dimensional cylindrical grinding based on finite elem ent analysis commercial software.Firstly the m echanism of grinding whee l cutting m aterial is studied from different angles.Then study the infl uence of the contact length and the grinding depth on grinding process,and the simulation show s that the smaller the contact length and smaller grinding depth can obtain a better m aterial stress distribution. Finally, analyze the position of biggest deform ation in grinding proce ss based on the sim ulation of the effect of moving load.
