WEDM is one of the important nontraditional machining methods, which has been widely used and indispensable. WEDM-HS machine is peculiar to China. It is one of the best-selling numerical control machines for its simple structure and affordable prices. At the moment, open loop control system is widely used in WEDM-HS machines made in China. Processing laws of WEDM-HS have been mastered yet. Dry WEDM is a new technology which appears in these years. Compared to the traditional WEDM, Dry WEDM has lots of advantages, such as excellent straightness, narrow discharge gap, no electrolytic corrosion on surface, non-polluted in the machining processing and so on. It applies to finishing machining.This paper summarized the principle of pulse discharge in WEDM machining processing. It gave an outline of multiple cutting in WEDM. It simply introduced how electrical parameters and non-electrical parameters affected surface roughness and material removal rate as well. It introduced the testing machine DK7740B and work piece material Cr12MoV yet. This paper designed orthogonal test in which elements contained pulse duration, ratio of pulse interval to pulse duration, peak current, offset, wire winding speed and interactions in above-mentioned five elements and technical indexes contained surface roughness and material removal rate. There is a rank of elements for technical indexes by analysis of range. There were significant elements for technical indexes by analysis of variance. This paper designed uniform design test in which elements still contained pulse duration, ratio of pulse interval to pulse duration, peak current, offset and wire winding speed and technical indexes still contained surface roughness and material removal rate. This paper made the polynomial regression model, stepwise regression model and BP natural network model on the basis of the combined two test results. Three models were significant by hypothesis testing. This paper made six experiments which proved that BP natural work model is optimal, stepwise regression takes second place and the polynomial regression is the worst.At last, this paper developed the WEDN-HS technology database on the basis of the test results and the data maker provided. Database connection used programing ADO. This paper put forward a design method that contained four modules and detailed the module functions.
