The polycrystalline diamond (PCD) superhard materials as the representative of the wear resistant performance is good, the increasingly wide range of applications.However, the characteristics of high hardness make it difficult to process, the traditional processing method is energy consuming and time consuming.The compound machining technology, which integrates rotation, ultrasonic vibration and micro EDM, has good effect on the machining of super hard materials, and the efficiency is high.The mechanism of ultrasonic machining and EDM was studied, and the effect of ultrasonic vibration on the discharge channel and the discharge gap was verified by the theory.The effect of ultrasonic assisted EDM on the material removal rate and the surface quality of the machined workpiece was studied.Analysis results show that:in the traditional micro electrical discharge machining (EDM) additional rotation, ultrasonic vibration function is helpful to improve the discharge gap and to discharge of debris thrown by promoting effect, on the surface of the material was modified and improve surface machining quality.Through the discussion of the function and requirement of EDM bed, we determine the design of machine tool structure selection.The main shaft of the electric spark composite machine tool is designed, and the ultrasonic vibration part is designed. The design of the main shaft of EDM machine tool is designed,especially ultrasonic vibration part.The ultrasonic horn and column were designed, and the model was established by SolidWorks, and the structure optimization and stability analysis were carried out by ANSYS,the rotation precision of the rotating spindle and the vibration amplitude of the ultrasonic horn are studied, which lays the foundation for the reliable design.In the control system, the overall control scheme of the machine tool is determined, and the control interface of the machine tool is programmed.The control cabinet of the machine tool is designed, and the communication mode of the internal wiring and components is completed.The research analyzed the cutting process of the PCD cutting tools and the ceme nted carbide cutting tools with micro texture and without. The results show that the P CD cutting tools and the cemented carbide cutting tools with groove texture on their f ace have higher cutting performance than those without texture on face. The wear of micro texture tools are better than that of non-micro texture ones.
