Under visible light irradiation, Au can be activated by the effect of surface plasmon resonance (SPR). The loaded Au-Pd bimetallic photocatalysts have good catalytic activities and stabilities. It is important to photocatalyze the a-alkylation reaction of alcohols and ketones (Saturated ketones are the target products.).Au-Pd bimetallic photocatalysts loaded on CeO2 or ZrO2 are prepared and their catalytic activities for the a-alkylation reaction of alcohols and ketones are studied. TEM, XRD, UV-vis DRS, XPS, SEM, ICP-MS and BET are used to characterize their particle sizes, structures and states. The research contents and results are shown as follows:1. Au/CeO2(or ZrO2), Pd/CeO2(or ZrO2) and Au-Pd/CeO2 (or ZrO2) photocataly-sts are prepared by the reduction of NaBH4 method. The results of XPS show that Au and Pd exist by metallic state.2. The a-alkylation reaction of alcohols and ketones are studied on Au/CeO2 (or ZrO2), Pd/CeO2 (or ZrO2) and Au-Pd/CeO2 (or ZrO2) photocatalysts. The catal -ytic activities on Au-Pd/CeO2 (or ZrO2) bimetallic photocatalysts are higher than that on Au/CeO2 (or ZrO2), Pd/CeO2 (or ZrO2) monometallic photocatalysts. When Au:Pd mass ratio is 1:1 and CeO2 is applied as support, the catalytic activity is the best. At the same time, the different solvents, the different bases and their amounts, the different catalysts and their amounts, the different amounts of the reactors, the different reaction atmospheres, the different alcohol derivatives and ketone derivatives are detected for the a-alkylation reaction of alcohols and ketones.3. The effects of different light intensities and wavelengths on the α-alkylati -on reaction of alcohols and ketones are detected. The recycling ability of the photocatalyst is studied, too. The yields of the target products (saturated ketones) increase with the increase of visible light intensity. But their yields decrease with the decrease of wavelength range. The photocatalysts can be reused for 4 times at least.4. According to the experiment results, the reaction mechanism for the α-alky -la tion reaction of alcohols and ketones are proposed.
