Ion exchange fiberhas been used extensively in fileds ofchemical production, pharmaceuticals, environmental protection, organic synthesis, etc.In recent years, ion exchange fiber materials have attracted a lot of scholars’ interest. Polyphenylene sulfide(PPS) fiber is a suitable matrix material of ion exchange fiberowing to its unique advantages suchas thermal stability, mechanical strength, etc.It is easy to chemical modification of PPS, because large number of benzene ring existed in PPS fiber. In this paper, we use the 1,4-bis(choromethoxy) butane which have high boiling pointand no carcinogenic effectsas chlorothylation reagent for the chloromethylation of PPS fiber. It is a green synthesis route for the synthesis of chloromethylation PPS.Then, two novel ion exchange fibers based on PPS fiber were prepared by anchoringaminopyridine, dicyandiamide into PPS fiberandused to remove the pollutants in the water. The main content was as follows:(1)The extent of chloromethylation reaction of PPS fiber in an open system and a closed system were investigated, respectively. The structure and properties ofchloromethylation PPS fiber(CMPPS) was characterized by element analysis, infrared spectrosocopy, scanning and electron microscope, etc. For the opend system, the chlorine content was 2.17mmol/g by optimizing the conditions. For the closed system, the chlorine content was 3.15mmol/g by optimizing the conditions. The chloromethylation fiber can still maintain good appearance morphology and mechanical strength.(2) A novel ion exchange fiber(QAPPS) containing 2-aminopyridinewasprepared through chloromethylation and amination on PPS fiber. The structure and properties of QAPPS fiber were characterized by element analysis, infrared spectrosocopy, scanning and electron microscope, etc.The results shown that the QAPPS fibermaintain good appearance morphology and mechanical strength, contain high functional group content(3.26mmol/g)and has good thermal stability under 196 ℃.(3) A novel ion exchange fibers(DCDAPPS) containing guanidine group was prepared by anchoring dicyandiamide onto chloromethylation polyphenylene sulfide fibre. The structure and properties of DCDAPPS fiber were characterized by element analysis, infrared spectrosocopy, scanning and electron microscope, etc. The results shown that DCDAPPS fiber maintain good appearance morphology and mechanical strength, contain high functional group content(2.42mmol/g) and has good thermal stability under 178℃.(4) The adsorption behavior of QAPPS fiber for Cr(VI) and As(V) was investigated. The results shown that the saturated adsorption for Cr(VI) and As(V) is 172 mg/g and 103mg/g, respectively. After five adsorption cycles, the adsorption capacities of fibers were not obviously decreased. The adsorption kinetics of Cr(VI) and As(V) is better consistent with the pseudo-second-order model for QAPPS fiber. The date of isotherm was fitted better with the Langmuir isotherm model than Freundlich isotherm models.
