Currently the pollution of arsenic and phosphorus have received more and more attentionmore and more attention. Adsorption method has obvious advantages. It focuses on the development of a high efficient and convenient new adsorption material. Aluminum-zirconiium coposite metal oxide was prepared by coprecipitation method. By screening the effect of different proportions of adsorbents, choose the Aluminum zirconium molar ratio of 3:1 finally(expressed as Al3Zr1). Study adsorbent surface characteristics by BET, XRD, SEM et.al. The adsorbent is amorphous crystal structure mostly It is composed of many tiny particles and it’s have rich pore structure. Phosphate adsorption is concentrate. Instead of arsenic. XPS illustrate that the main element of the adsorbent are Al, Zr and O. FTIR illustrate that its surface is rich in hydroxy It has a high specific area of 31.42 m2/g and an isoelectric point of 3.5. The Langmuir model is more suitable for describing the adsorption behavior both of arseanate and phosphorus. The maximal adsorption capacity for As(V) is as high as 125.71 mg/g. The maximal adsorption capacity for P is as high as 76.16 mg/g. The adsorption kinetics results showed that the arseanate adsorption is quick and the kinetic data is well fitted by the pseudo second order model. And for P it’s well fitted by power model. Additionally, the arseanate adsorption on aluminum-zirconiium coposite metal oxide is pH-independent. The phosphate adsorption on aluminum-zirconiium coposite metal oxide is pH-dependent, decreases with increasing solution pH after 5.0. Phosphate added severely inhibited As(V) adsorption. Ilicate added severely inhibited P adsorption Through the analysis of FTIR and XPS, we can draw that hydroxy played an important role in the adsorption process by surface complexation. Al3+ and anion should also be considered co-precipitation under low pH. At the same ion exchange between arsenate or phosphate and sulfate within the material is also one of the mechanisms adsorbed.
