Flame retardant is a series of functional additives that can reduce the burning performance of flammable polymers and inhibit the flame propagation. With the development of people’s consciousness of environmental protection and the growthing technology of fame retardant,it is an inevitable trend that the halogen flame-retardant agent will be replaced by the no halogen flame retardant agent, and the expansion type flame retardant agent (IFR) and silicon containing flame retardant agent, attracts more and more attention. With phosphorus and nitrogen as the main components of the expansion flame retardant has the functions of flame retardant, smoke suppression, less toxic and so on. Silicon flame retardant has been deeply rooted among the people by thei environmentally friendly flame retardant image. In this paper, the intumescent flame retardant mixed with silicon-based flame retardant is used in polypropylene (PP) flame retardant. This paper has discussed the influence of the composition and amount of flame retardant and mechanical properties of PP flame retardant system. This article includes the following sections:1. It describes the flame retardant mechanism of IFR and silicon-based flame retardants, makes a systematic summary of application in flame retardant PP. Proposes research ideas and content of this paper based on the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the different flame retardant system.2. The silane coupling agent was used to modify ammonium phosphate (APP), and its moisture absorption was measured by the difference method. Through the investigation of the types and treatment methods of silane coupling agent, the optimum silane coupling agent and treatment method of APP was obtained.3. Explore the amount of flame retardants and the proportion of each group, to master the best ratio of flame retardant and the lowest amount.4. Study the synergistic effect of N-P-Si by adding inorganic silicon flame retardant to the expansion flame retardant system. Through exploring the kinds of inorganic silicon (such as silica, bentonite, diatomite, kaolin, etc.), particle size, adding amount, adding method, getting the best flame retardant effect of inorganic silicon flame retardant and its best adding amount and adding method.5. Study the synergistic effect of N-P-Si by adding silicone resin and silicone rubber to the expansion flame retardant system. Through exploring the types of silicone resin, R/Si, acidity, solvent types, phenyl content, silicone rubber types getting the best performance of the silicone rubber and silicone resin.6. Through the study of rheological properties of the system, to explore the influence of various fillers on the processing performance of the material.
