In recent years, the greenhouse turtle breeding in Huzhou is growing rapidly and has become the agricultural pillar industry, and the income earned from this breeding makes up an increasingly higher proportion in farmers’income. However, with the rapid development and expansion of this industry, its waste water has become a greater threat to the environment. Through the survey on waste water in turtle breeding in major towns, the average concentration of COD (chemical oxygen demand), ammonia-nitrogen and TP (total phosphorus) are 746±821mg/L, 108±82mg/L and 2.92±1.71mg/L respectively, which are 19,54 and 15 times of V class water quality in National Surface Water Environment Quality Standard (GB 3838-2002). Meanwhile, the highest concentration of COD, ammonia-nitrogen TP (total phosphorus) are 2950mg/L,388mg/L and 5.59 mg/L respectively,74,194 and 28 times of V class water quality in National Surface Water Environment Quality Standard (GB 3838-2002). There are 4,600 breeding sheds across the whole city, producing about 4.2 million cubic meters of waste water,3,133 tons of COD and 454 tons of ammonia-nitrogen, which account for 7.07% and 7.42% of the total amount of each index in Huzhou. What’s more, the emission intensity of COD for this industry is 56.36 kg per 10,000 yuan,25 times of that in Huzhou; the emission intensity of ammonia-nitrogen for this industry is 8.17 kg per 10,000 yuan,23 times of that in Huzhou.The thesis analyses the present situation of greenhouse turtle breeding and its waste water pollution in Huzhou. Four common waste water treatments are compared, i.e. AO+SSFW, enhanced processing technology for micro power biochemical pool, A2/O+biological contact oxidation, and pre-treatment+aquamats ecological treatment technology, in respects of treatment principle? technical procedure, treatment effect, daily maintenance and advantages and disadvantages. Donglin town in Wuxing District is taken as a case, introducing the technical procedures of treatment for breeding waste water, design parameters of main structure building, investment funds and the actual results. Finally, in regard to the present situation of waste water discharge and pollution of greenhouse turtle breeding in Huzhou, three measurements are proposed as:(1) to emphasize standardization, proper plan and execution; (2) to promote ecological breeding and strengthen pollution control; (3) to enhance systematic management and sound protection mechanism. The results are of theoretical significance to minimise the pollution of greenhouse turtle breeding in Huzhou and ensure a healthy and sustainable development of turtle breeding industry.
