Passion fruit (Passiflora), dicotyledonous plants, belonging to the Passifloraceae, is from Brazil. The main varieties are P. edulis Sims var. edulis and P. edulis Sims var. flavicarpa in China. Passion fruit juice is widely welcomed, due to it is rich in vitamins, amino acids and carotenoids and other nutrients. But there will produce a large number of unused by-products, with the increase of beverage productionthe. Passion fruit seed oils can be used as a new source of high quality edible oil. In order to filter the passionfruit seed for its development and utilization, purple passion fruit seed oils and yellow passion fruit seed oils were studied to their physicochemical properties, antibacterial activity, antioxidant, in vitro antioxidant activity and in vivo antioxidant activity. The main contents and results are as follows:1、The physicochemical properties of yellow and purple passion fruit seed oil were studied, including specific gravity, iodine value, refractive index, acid value, saponification value, peroxide value, and the composition of fatty acids. The results showed that the oil contents of yellow and purple passion fruit seed were 24.62% and 24.70%, respectively. The unsaturated fatty acids contents in the yellowand purple passion fruit seed oils were 86.67% and 89.37%, among the linoleic acidaccount for the highest content, which were 73.44% and 76.72%, respectively.2、Antioxidants of yellow and purple passion fruit seed oil were analyzed. Two kinds of passion fruit seed oil contained flavonoids, β-carotene and vitamin E and the highest one were flavonoids. Total phenol content of yellow passion fruit seed oil and purple passion fruit seed oil were 16.69 and 15.82 mg GAE/kg, respectively.3、The antioxidant activities of two kinds of passion fruit seed oil were compared by measuring the iron reduction capability and the scavenging rates to DPPH-,O2-· and ·OH. The ability of reducing ferric and scavenging DPPH-of purple passion fruit seed oil was stronger than the yellow one, while the ability of scavenging O2-· and ·OH was opposite. The scavenging ability of two kinds of passion fruit seed oil for DPPH· and 02-· were more than 84% and 80%, respectively. This research revealed that two kinds of passion fruit seed oil had strong in vitro antioxidant activity.4、Purple passion fruit seed oils and yellow passion fruit seed oils were studied to antibacterial activity on five kinds of bacteria by filter paper disc diffusion method. And according to the experimental results, the concentration of oil was diluted into gradient, in order to study the antimicrobial activity of two kinds of passion fruit seed oil. The results showed that two kinds of passion fruit seed oil had a certain degree of inhibition on five kinds of bacteria. Antibacterial activity of the purple passion fruit seed oil was stronger than the yellow one. Inhibitory effect of two kinds of passion fruit seed oil on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were strong, but on Salmonella, Shigella, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the inhibitory effect were general.5、D-galactose was used to construct a mouse model of aging, and the different doses of yellow and purple passion fruit seed oil were given. The contents of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and propylene glycol (MDA) of mices in heart, liver, brain and serum were measured. Results showed that the contents of SOD and GSH-Px in the heart, liver, brain and serum of the model group were decreased, and MDA content was increased, with significant difference of the blank control, which indicated that aging mice model was successfully established. The analysis shows that two kinds of passion fruit seed oil could increase the activities of GSH-Px and SOD, and reduce the level of MDA, with significant difference of the model control, which showed that the yellow and purple passion fruit seed oil have significant antioxidant effect in vivo.
