In Su 53 block, different hole sections have different characters, the drilling of first spud section and second spud section are similar with conventional well, however, directional section and horizontal section are different with conventional well, and they are difficult points. Normally the directional section is about 500 m, including 300 m sliding drilling, ROP is very low which is 23%~30% of rotate drilling, so we must optimize bit design to meet the requirement of sliding and choose high quality compacts, otherwise, the footage of single bit is very little, cause frequent tripping. The horizontal section is always 1000 to 2000 m, about 20%-30% sliding, which is lower than directional section, only sliding when the inclination is changed, so the PDC bit must have good ability of angle holding, high ROP and high footage. The key is how to improve ROP and footage in this section.I make a research based on characteristic design of PDC bit in horizontal well. According to formation features, we designed a PDC bit for directional drilling, optimized bit structure to improve ROP and footage, and selected high-tech compact to enlarge bit life. The goal of this research project is to improve the ROP of the horizontal well drilling. On the one hand, develop a suitable PDC bit for directional drilling, On the other hand, based on the optimization of compact to improve the bit performance.
