Acrylate polymer latexes have many excellent film properties, including good film appearance, high gloss, transparency, and good mechanical properties. But they have poor water/solvent resistance and poor weather resistance. In comparison with acrylate polymer latexes, the silicones exhibit excellent water proofness, chemical resistance, high and low temperature resistance, and ultraviolet resistant. Modification of polyacrylate latexes by organosilicone can improve their properties. In this paper, polyacrylate emulsions modified by vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) were prepared through emulsion copolymerization reaction, and the formed emulsions and their films were also studied.1. The VTES-modified polyacrylate emulsions were synthesized by semi-batch synthesis techniques. The effects of initiator, the content and proportion of complex emulsifier, reaction temperature and VTES content on the emulsion copolymerization were studied.2. The VTES-modified polyacrylate latex films were prepared and characterized by IR, SEM, TGA and DSC experiments. The heat resistance of the films was improved and the water absorption of the films was decreased. With the increase of the amount of VTES, the initial temperature and the maximum weight loss temperature of the latex films were increased. The water absorptions of the latex films decreased with the increase of VTES content.
