In this thesis, the development of emulsion polymerization theory and related new technologies are comprehensively reviewed, and the synthetic technologies of fluorine-silica containing acrylate latexes both at home and abroad are also reviewed. Based on the current development and research in this field, attentions of study are focused on using reactive emulsifier and fluorine containing organosilicone to modify the acrylate monomers by emulsion copolymerization for preparing novel acrylate latex. The major raw materials used to synthesize fluorine-silica containing acrylate latex are vinyl siloxane,1,3,5-tris(3,3,3-trifluoropropyl)-1,3,5-trimethylcyclotrisiloxane(D3F) and acrylates. A small fraction of organic silicon fluorine side groups were incorporated into acrylic chains via copolymerization. The effect of emulsifier content and proportion, the concentration of initiator, reaction temperature, monomer content on the emulsion copolymerization are studied through measuring the monomer conversion and the latex particle size etc. The results showed that the above factors can affect the stability of the emulsion copolymerization and the performance of the latex film.Reactive surfactant (AMPS) was used in the polymerization of fluorine-silica containing acrylate. Influence of AMPS on the mechanical properties of latex film and stability of emulsion was studied. Testing results showed that reactive surfactant AMPS could reduce the content of traditional emulsifier, and could maintain high stability of latex. A series of composite latexex of fluorine-silica/acrylate through the optimizing parameters have been prepared. The infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, transmission electron microscopy and water absorption rates measurement are used to characterize the chemical structure and the surface properties of the polymer films. The results demonstrated that the composite latex is indeed successfully prepared using the semi-batch synthesis techniques, and the water absorption tests of latex films confirmed that the modified acrylate polymers posses higher waterproof ability compared with the pure acrylate polymers.
