The regenerative furnaces are the main energy consumption equipment for the iron and steel enterprises. Since the low energy efficiency of the whole equipment causes great waste, there is a huge amount of energy to save. Consider the severe energy situation and the low energy efficiency of regenerative furnace in China, It is worth of the research on how to diagnose energy-consumption status and establish a scientific and effective energy-saving diagnosis system.Firstly, this paper introduce the structure and work principle of regenerative furnace. Based on thermal equilibrium model, the main thermal energy items and its thermal losses are stated to make a base for the further study of energy-saving work.Secondly, simplify the main thermal energy items of regenerative furnace. Since there are many factors in thermal equilibrium equations about heat loss from exhaust gas and non-full burning, the key factors are obtained based on equations of main thermal energy and analyzes on thermal losses. Then, the model of heat loss from exhaust gas and the model of heat loss from non-full burning are rebuilt by support vector machine for further research on energy-saving diagnosis method.Thirdly, energy-saving diagnosis model is established. At the beginning, some typical energy-consumption faults such as air leakage of furnace body, non-full burning, damaging or dropping of furnace lining, etc., are analyzed. After analyzing each fault energy consumption, the energy-saving diagnosis relational table is set up among energy-comsumption faults, the main thermal energy items and energy-comsumption fault features. Then the collected data are processed according to a certain generative rules based on baseline values and limit values, which are used to train energy-saving diagnosis relational table based on BP artificial network, and finally the energy-saving diagnosis model of regenerative furnace is established. The model is tested on a regenerative furnace in steel rolling in northern China and the result shows that it is effective.Finally, the design and implementation of the energy-saving diagnosis system is introduced. After designing the overall energy-saving diagnosis system framework of regenerative furnace, energy-saving diagnosis software which is the core part of the system is developed with C# based on proposed model. This software offers scientific guide for energy-saving diagnosis of the iron and steel enterprises.
