In this paper, the brominated butyl rubber(BIIR) was synthes ized by a solution method. The impact of bromination synthes is process conditions(reaction temperature, the reaction time, liquid bromine c ontents and additives, etc.) on the gel content was studied. And the mathematical and statistical software SPSS20.0 was used for variance analys is of gel content, and the quantitative research of the significant impact. Ultimately the optimal production conditions of controlling BIIR gel content was obtained. Performances(including 1HNMR analysis, thermal stability performance, thermal oxidative aging performance, Mooney viscosity and curing tensile properties) under different bromination synthesis process conditions were determined to explore the impact of BIIR gel content on its properties. The method of filtration is used to determine the gel content, and the resulting particle size is larger than 15μm. Compared to Chemical Industry Standard SH/T 1050-2014, the new method has a good repeatability, and is more stable. And the particle size is smaller. Analyzing the effects of different conditions on the gel content by the software SPSS20.0, results showed that the effects of reaction temperature and liquid bromine content are more significant than reaction time and antioxidant content. By studying the effects of bromination process conditions on BIIR gel content respectively, the results showed that when the temperature is too high or too low, the gel content will increase, so the temperature at about 50℃ is appropriate. The gel content increases as liquid bromine and bromide time increases, so the bromide time controls within the range of 1min ~ 2min, and the amount of liquid bromine controls at about 0.65 m L~0.7m L. The antioxidant is helpful to control the gel content, and the antioxidant 1330 is preferred. The performances of brominated butyl rubber, such as, Mooney viscosity, thermal oxidative aging resistance and curing properties, etc., are associated with the gel content of brominated butyl rubber.
