Nano silver sulfide/pulp fiber composite papers, nano-copper sulfide and nano-cuprous sulfide/pulp fiber composite papers were successfully prepared by using in-situ synthesis process in the paper. Both antibacterial paper samples made from the composite fibers were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The corresponding results confirmed the existence of silver sulfide nanoparticles, copper sulfide and cuprous sulfide nanoparticles on the surface of the paper, respectively. The effects of preparation conditions (sulfur source types, temperature, time, pH and reactant concentration) on the antimicrobial property were explored. It was found that the main factors influencing the antibacterial property of nano-silver sulfide/pulp fiber composite papers were sulfur source and temperature. The composite papers prepared by using sodium sulfide as sulfur source had good antibacterial property. The suitable conditions for the preparation of nano silver sulfide/pulp fiber composite papers were obtained:sodium sulfide 0.005 mol/L, silver nitrate 0.01 mol/L,20 ℃,2 h. And the main factors influencing the antibacterial property of nano-copper sulfide and nano-cuprous sulfide/pulp fibers composite papers were also sulfur source and temperature. The composite papers prepared by using sodium sulfide as sulfur source displayed good antibacterial activity, The suitable conditions for the preparation of nano-copper sulfide and nano-cuprous sulfide/pulp fibers composite papers were obtained:sodium sulfide 0.02 mol/L, copper acetate 0.02 mol/L,80 ℃,2.5 h, pH 4. Finally, the antibacterial properties, deposition ratio, tensile strength of the nano-silver sulfide/pulp fibers composite papers, the nano-copper sulfide and nano-cuprous sulfide/pulp fibers composite papers were compared, the corresponding results showed that the nano-silver sulfide/pulp fibers composite papers had a better performance than the nano-copper sulfide, and nano-cuprous sulfide/pulp fibers composite papers in all the three aspects.
