| The arhat bed is one of the important components of Chinese classical furniture categories. The form and decoration of Ming-style arhat bed have the characteristics of Ming-Dynasty furniture and have a unique artistic appreciation value. With the Ming-style arhat bed as the research object, this paper makes a relatively systematical analysis and research on it from two major aspects of form and decoration based on a lot of furniture graphic data and historical documents so as to illustrate the status and historical value of Arhat bed in Ming-Dynasty furniture and improve the classical furniture shape theory system and then to provide a theoretical basis for the research, design and production of similar furniture through the research on the artistry of Ming-style arhat bed.This paper applies case analysis method and inductive method in the research of the forms of Ming-style arhat bed, and the results after the analysis of the forms of bed wai parts and bedstead parts show that bed wai parts according to the structure can be divided into duban style, cuanbian style, doucu style, and so on. At the same time, this paper gets the form rules of rectangular bed wai and non-rectangular bed wai respectively. The forms of Bedstead parts according to the organizational structure can be divided into leg and foot part, waist part, yaban part, tuoni part, and so forth. Leg and foot parts can be divided into straight leg style and non-straight leg style, and this paper gets the matching rules of varus and valgus horseshoe-shaped feet. The forms of Waists parts are divided into linar and non-linar waist and this paper gets the connection between the form of waist parts and upper and lower bed structure. The forms of Yaban parts can be divided into linar and non-linar yaban based on the exterior outline and pengyaban and zhiyaban based on the cross section and this paper gets the connection between its form and foot and leg and waist. Meanwhile, as the connecting and supporting part, this paper also gets the connection between tuoni’s form and upper leg and foot. From all of the results mentioned above, this paper gets the form features and shaping rules of Ming-style arhat bed.This paper applies inductive method and analytical method in the research of decorations of Ming-style arhat bed, and the results after the analysis of decoration methods and decoration patterns show that carving which consists of relief, openwork carving and a combination of relief and openwork carving and inlaying are the most common decoration methods. Decoration patterns are made up of natural patterns and unnatural patterns according to the subject, and this paper gets the composition features of the surface of each part based on the matching and organizing of patterns on each part of arhat bed. From the above-mentioned results, this paper gets the application rules of decoration methods of Ming-style arhat bed and utilization features of decoration patterns. In the study of decoration methods, it is analyzed that carving and inlaying are commonly used in the decoration of arhat bed and carving methods of relief, openwork carving and a combination of relief and openwork carving and inlaying method in other decoration methods are gained. Based on the research in the decoration patterns, the composition features of natural decoration pattern, geometric decoration pattern, combined decoration pattern and other decoration pattern are analyzed. As a result, the basic decoration rules of decoration methods of Qing-style arhat bed and the basic forms of decoration pattern are gained.On the basis of a large number of detailed pictures, this paper conducts researches on two aspects of form and decoration of Ming-style arhat bed. The research in the form provides a design basis for the study of furniture form in the Ming-style furniture system. The research in the decoration of Ming-style arhat bed provides reasonable reference for the data related to the research of patterns and decoration elements of modern Ming-style furniture. |
