Indoor air quality has a direct impact on human health. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) has listed indoor air pollution as the fourth largest environmental health hazards. The World Health Organization has classified indoor air pollution as one of the top ten threats to human health. With the improvement of living standards, the effect of decorative materials on poor indoor air has attracted more and more attention.This paper investigated the effect of molecular structure, preparation and coating formulation of the polyacrylic emulsion for removing aldehydes. The emulsion paint for formaldehyde, toluene and ammonia degradation was prepared by adopting Ti O2 modified diatomite, zeolites, silica gel and seaweed mud. These effective cooperative techniques of long-term absorption and the irreversible reaction can absorb and decompose formaldehyde, toluene, ammonia existed in the indoor surroundings. Considering the stain resistance of the resultant coating in addition to the efficiency of the formaldehyde degradation, the emulsion and packing with excellent stain resistance were selected to make the coating has better stain resistance.The removal of formaldehyde, toluene, ammonia and humidity controlling are the key technical problem of this product. During the research, TiO2 photocatalytic modified diatomite was compounded with zeolite, silica gel and seaweed mud. The indoor formaldehyde purification efficiency within 48 hours of the seaweed mud interior latex paint reached to 90.1%; the durability of the formaldehyde purification effect was up to 80.2%; the indoor toluene purification efficiency within 48 hours reached to 51.1%; the durability of the toluene purification was up to 42.2%; the indoor ammonia purification efficiency within 48 hours reached to 46.9% and the durability of the ammonia purification was up to 42.7%,Stain resistance score of 8.8.The "seaweed mud" interior functional latex paint was marketed by Carpoly Co. Ltd. This product can effectively absorb and degrade formaldehyde, toluene and ammonia in the long term. Favorable reviews have been received around the country and a new upsurge of environmental-friendly and purification product has appeared in the coating industry.
