Cotton dressing as the presentative of cellulose wound dressing still plays an important role in wound healing. Cotton dressing has excellent properties such as good moisture absorption, soft texture, wide source and low allergenicity. However, cotton dressing has no antibacterial property which is a significant factor in the process of wound healing. At present, the research of antibacterial wound dressing is mainly concentrated on the silver ion antibacterial materials,, but not organic antibacterial agents which also have good antibacterial properties. Therefore, there is great significance to develop antibacterial cotton dressing containing organic antibacterial agent. In this paper, the differences of antibacterial standards ware compared and the effects of operating details of antibacterial experiments on the results were studied. In order to prepare cotton dressing with different release effects, Triclosan was chose as antibacterial agent and cotton dressing was treated by two kinds of antibacterial finishing methods. The study of different operating details included different inoculation methods, different production methods of ager plat and different volume of medium. The results showed that, bacterial inoculation methods had a certain correlation with the results. The production methods of ager plate and the volume of medium had some effect on the width of antibacterial inhibition.Because some wounds are highly exudative and require frequent dressing changes, antibacterial agent on wound dressing should be released timely to kill bacterials. The antibacterial finishing of cotton dressing was explored by “Sterilization+Antibacterial Finishing” technology. In this method, Triclosan was transferred to cotton dressing by temperature and high pressure in the process of steam sterilization. The effect of different Triclosan concentration and different volume of antibacterial finishing liquid on the finishing effect were discussed. The antibacterial durability of cotton dressing was tested. The results showed that, with the increase of Triclosan concentration, the Triclosan content on cotton dressing was increased and also the antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia Coil(E. coil) and V Staphylococcus Aureus(S. aureus), while the utilization rate of Triclosan was decreased. When Triclosan concentration was up to 500 mg/L, the utilization rate was less than 10 % which wound waste lots of Triclosan. With the increase of antibacterial finishing liquid volume, the Triclosan content on cotton dressing and antibacterial efficacy were increased. But it had little effect on the upload rate. Time and money could be saved by “Sterilization+Antibacterial Finishing” technology. Cotton dressing treated in this way had good antibacterial property and Triclosan on it could release timely to kill bacterial and last for about 9 hours. Some wounds with low exudation just need to change less than one wound dressing every day. Therefore, antibacterial agent on dressing should be released slowly. HPβ-CD was chose as carrier. HPβ-CD is an important drug carrier and it can include Triclosan and control the release of Triclosan. In this method, HPβ-CD was grafted to cotton dressing by citric acid(CA) firstly, and then Triclosan was included into HPβ-CD. Single factor experiments and orthogonal experiments were applied to determine the optional grafting parameters and HPβ-CD content on cotton dressing and tensile strength were chose as indexes. Orthogonal experiments were applied to investigate the optional inclusion parameters and Triclosan content on cotton dressing was chose as index. The antibacterial cotton dressing was prepared according to the optimum process and its properties were tested. The results showed that, the optional grafting parameters were as follows: the concentration of HPβ-CD and CA at 25g/L and 30g/L respectively, the baking temperature at 140 ℃and the baking time at 3 min. The optional inclusion parameters were as follows: inclusion time at 1 h, inclusion temperature at 40 ℃ and the concentration of ethanol at 40 %. The antibacterial property of cotton dressing was evaluated by absorption method. The antibacterial rate of antibacterial cotton dressing for Escherichia coli(E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus) were both more than 99 %. The release of Triclosan on antibacterial cotton dressing could last 24 h in phosphate buffered saline(PBS) at 37 ℃ which was consistent with gauze dressing time. In addition, there was no obvious change in weight, thickness and volume weight of antibacterial gauze, but the moisture absorption was significantly improved.
