Due to the increasing barren ore grade, mining mineral processing scale, and the rapid development of building materials, chemical industry, the amount of material need to be broken and ground become larger, the requirement of size are also higher, which put forward higher requirements to the grinding equipments. Tower mill with its simple structure, high grinding efficiency, low energy consumption gaining more attention. But because of the quantity grinding medias and material particles inside the tower mill, state of the sports are complex, the research on the behavior of particles is not perfect. Therefore, this paper based on the discrete element method, simulated the movement of particles and the interactions between them in the mill tower, and got the key parameters optimized from the simulation results to improve the performance of the mill.In order to study the state of particles motion in the stirred tank of tower mill, analyzed the motion and stress of the grinding medias in the stirred tank. Found a mathematical model to describe the material crushing process based on mass and energy conservation theorem. JM-200 tower mill as the research object for the study, establish a numerical model of the tower mill in the software EDEM. According to the simulation results, we determine the particle system in a tower mill was stable during operation, analyzed the distribution of velocity and contact force of the particles in different position of radial and height in a stirred tank.Research on the main parameters of the tower mill, and analyzed the effect of these parameters on the work performance of tower mill. Select four key parameters:the agitator diameter, speed, helix angle, media filling rate, arranged by orthogonal design of four factors and three levels simulation experiments, and select the normal contact force between the media and power per mass as the experimental index. Analyzed the experimental results by range analysis and comprehensive analysis. Obtained the law of stirrer diameter, speed, helix angle, the media filling rat influence on experimental results under different experimental index and the optimum combination of parameters.
