The traditional method to process engine pipe is lathe machining. In order to guarantee the accuracy, the method need much time to process each pipe, so the production efficiency is low. The local buckling deformation can occur under the action of axial load. Using this principle, the mould can be designed for cold forming steel pipe to a trumpet end.In this paper, the cold forming process on the end of steel pipe not only guarantees the product quality but also improves the production efficiency greatly. When forming the trumpet end, the jigs cannot completely clamping pipe because of the rigidity of jigs and pipes, and the axial force will affect the other end of the pipe. Under the action of the axial load, the deformation of the reducing yield will affect the next process. The finite element software ABAQUS is used on the trumpet end forming process to calculate the amount of feed to the forming mould, and the diameter changes of the reducing diameter end.According to the diameter of the reducing diameter end after forming the trumpet end, the simulation can be carried out by ABAQUS to verify the ability of the rapid forming of reducing diameter end. By reducing the coefficient of shrinkage limit, when the end cannot be formed once, the forming process should be improved and the diameter of material need to be changed. According to affecting of different diameters to trumpet end, the amount of feed to each diameter of pipes can be got. The finite element software ABAQUS can be used to calculate the spring back of the steel tube under the residual stress. According to the calculate result of the spring back simulation of final forming, the length and incoming diameter of pipes can be got to process machine car pipes to required precision.
