Mine water inrush is one of the major disasters that affect the safety of production, which has brought very heavy casualties and economic losses. There are many actors for this, but most of them is caused by faults. According to the statistics, it has taken place more than two hundred submergence accidents in the last three decades, and about eighty percent of them is due to the fault or the buried fault. As the increase of mining depth and scale, the pressure of rock and water underground will also be larger. In the other hand, the danger of water inrush can be more heavily because of the presence of more complex geological conditions. Therefore, it is of great important and significant for the mine safety production to research the influence of fault on water inrush. The controlling effects of fault to water inrush is mainly manifested in the interaction between faults and bottom aquifer, water-resisting layer, geological structure and mining pressure, under the influence of which is the key to the activation of fault that caused the water inrush in working face. This paper combined the results of previous studies and simulated the factors of fault activation with the method of theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. By monitoring the change of shear stress on the fault under different conditions, it analyzed the degree to the activation of faults from a quantitative point of view. At last, the danger of water inrush to fault JiF19 was researched in Baiping coal mine. The simulation results show that: The degree of the activation was controlled by shear stress and normal stress on the plane of the fault, and the size of the shear stress is bigger with the increase of fault dip. The risk of water inrush become greater when the fault dip is lower, under of which the crevice will be more likely to arise. The faultscale, excavation distance and the length of working face also increases the risk of water inrush at some level. Water inrush accidents will be likely to occur when the distance between designing cut lane and fault JiF19 is less than 30 m.
