By means of consulting a great deal of literature and books about Fractal Theory and fractal interpolation,the basic theory of Fractal Theory and its application on exploration and development are detailed stated in this dissertation, then a conclusion, which says that Fractal Theory is applied to fractal dimension and fractal prediction of one-dimensional data encryption.Based on previous research achievements, this paper conducts a systematic studyof fractal characteristic and fractal interpolation method, then Fractal Theory is introduced into prediction of coal reservoir, and preliminary, two model of coal reservoir permeability prediction based on the Fractal Theory is explored eventually.The main contents are as follows:(1) On the basis of qualitatively analyzing the fractal characteristics of coal reservoir permeability data, quantitative analysis of fractal characteristics of the method is expounded. Based on the fractal basic theory and basic methods are illustrated entirely, this paper is mainly focused on the use of R/S and fractal characteristics of quantitative analysis of variation function, and then convert the theoretical knowledge into algorithmic processes and software modules. Application to prediction of coal bed permeability is good enough to verify the validity of the theory.(2) After the coal reservoir permeability data is verified with fractal characteristics, two models about fractal interpolation prediction of coal reservoir permeability are established, and their modularization are implemented. Very advanced random fractal interpolation algorithm and self-affine fractal interpolation method are respectively introduced to this paper, and on the basis of predecessors theory, the improved self-affine fractal interpolation algorithm also realizes modularization. Results to prediction of coal bed permeability elaborate the features of Fractal Theory as well as retain the irregular microscopic information.(3) Analyzing the advantages and disadvantages between fractal surface interpolation and Kringing interpolation in detail, the differences between the fractal curve interpolation and conventional curve interpolation, the random fractal interpolation and the self-affine fractal interpolation. In the end the paper summarizes the advantages of improved self-affine fractal interpolation.(4) This paper develops systematical fractal interpolation theory as fractal interpolation visualization software system which is highly suitable for Windows environment for the first time. It plays a role in promoting for the future study on Fractal Theory rapidly and systematically.(5) Based on researching a block’s influencing factors of coal reservoir permeability in the Qinshui Basin, the Fractal Theory is introduced to coal reservoir permeability prediction by using fractal interpolation software system, and it just verifies that the fractal interpolation can describe the real distribution of permeability better.The whole thesis gives priority to theoretical study, combining the application of actual project data. It provides another method that has been worthy of reference on the prediction of reservoir parameters.
