In this paper, several new type structured packing of rhombus mesh frame and pall ring were examined and compared in gas- liquid absorption and liquid- liquid extraction respectively for the mass transfer performance.Bubbling column is an important equipment of gas-liquid two phase to make chemical reaction or mass transfer. As the main flow inside bubbling column is driven by rising bubbles from the bottom,hydrodynamics involved exhibits complicated status due to the interaction and strong coupling between liquid and gas phases. The contact area of two phases is the important factors of influencing the mass transfer of efficiency of bubbling column. Developing new packing to improve the dispersed effect of the dispersed phase is one of the important measures to improve the gas- liquid mass transfer efficiency in the bubbling column. This paper is for a new type structured packing of rhombus mesh frame in the bubbling tower performance study. In Φ100mm bubbling absorption column, the system of distilled water absorbing carbon dioxide was chosen to examine and compare mass transfer performance about new type structured packing of rhombus mesh frame andΦ16mm pall ring. Static gas holdup and height of mass transfer unit of five packing of different specifications were tested. The results show that static gas holdup of several kinds of packing is the same under low gas velocity, however static gas holdup of new type structured packing of rhombus mesh frame increases 28% than the pall ring under high gas velocity. The height of mass transfer unit of four kinds of new type structured packing of rhombus mesh frame is higher than pall ring, only the one which has smaller mesh reduces 15% than pall ring. The packing with small mesh has higher mass transfer efficiency in the condition of measuring system.Liquid-liquid extraction as a separation technology has gotten rapid development in recent years whose characteristic is high selectivity, good separation effect, easy to realize large-scale continuous production, etc.The mass transfer performance of packing is an important factor to decide extraction efficiency when the extraction agent is determined for packing extraction tower.This paper also tested mass transfer performance of new type structured packing of rhombus mesh frame in liquid- liquid extraction. In a Φ50 mm packing column, the system with medium interfacial tension of 30%(mass fraction) tributyl phosphate-kerosene-acetic acid-water was chosen to examine the Liquid- liquid extraction performance(such as dispersed phase holdup, Flooding velocity, height of mass transfer unit) of three new type structured packing of rhombus mesh frame and Φ10mm pall ring under different operating conditions. The experimental results show that the height of mass transfer unit of new type structured packing of rhombus mesh frame reduces 15%-45% than pall ring under the same operating condition. The packing with small mesh has higher mass transfer efficiency in the condition of measuring system.
