Biomass waste is a kind of valuable resources, which is not used sufficiently. Due to great consideration and huge pressure on environmental and energy issues, the comprehensive utilization of discarded biomass waste was no less portentous. In this paper corn bract and bagasse had been used as starting materials to extract polysaccharide. Then these extracted polysaccharides were modified by imidazoline quaternary ammonium salts and thiosemicarbazides. The resulting derivatives were used as water treatment agents to solve the problems of corrosion and bacteria generation. At the same time, the inhibition mechanism were also investigated in details, which would provide necessary gist for the researches and development of inhibitors. The results indicated that the anticorroding performances for the saying polysaccharide derivatives are much better than those for the extracted polysaccharide materials, and the corrosion inhibition performances of the corn bract polysaccharide derivatives are all better than those for bagasse polysaccharose derivatives. The corrosion inhibition efficiencies of the all polysaccharose derivatives in acidic solution were much better than in standard salt water and the highest inhibition efficiencies of the polysaccharose derivatives in acid solutions are all above 92 %.In view of the FT-IR spectra of corrosion products and the XPS data, the inhibition to corrosion of the polysaccharide derivatives can be contributed to formation of adsorption film over metal surface via complextion of n or π-electron from the inhibitors with Fe. What’s more, some synergistic effect for corrosion inhibition from chloride ion was observed. Their characte ristics of adsorption isotherms corresponded well with the Langmuir equations and the thermodynamics data indicated that the adsorption of the inhibitors in HCl solution was spontaneous and exothermic. The electrochemical data showed the polysaccharide derivatives impeded the mass transfer or electronic delivery of the corrosion reaction These QAPIs or QACIs acted as mixed inhibitor in 1 mol/L HCl solution and as cathodic inhibitors in 4 mol/L HCl solution. The polysaccharide derivatives were furnished with good inhibition to microbial formation through the chemical modification by QAs. The killing ratios of polysaccharose derivatives are all above 90.0 % at the dosage of 100 mg/L in standard salty water solution. The PS-QALI may have bad penetratjion over the cytomembrane due to the long alkyl chain of QALI, so the killing ratios of PS-QALI are lower than the others.
