Nowadays, Polyvinyl Chloride(PVC) isone of the most widely used synthetic materials in the world, but its mechanical property is poor, additives should be added in the blends, the most common use is the plasticizer. The most wildly used plasticizer at present is the DOP in the world, but its toxicity and carcinogenicity made it controversial and restricted. The polyester plasticizers in this research are poly(1,2-propylene glycol adipate)(PPA) and diethylene glycol monobutyl ether adipate(DGBEA) which are low volatile, low mobility, low virulence and environmental protection, they have good compatibilities with PVC, and they have been called the “permanent plasticizer”.1. PPA was used as an environmentally friendly plasticizer in flexible PVC. Thermal,mechanical, and rheological properties of the PVC/PPA blends were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical analysis, tensile test. The results showed that PPA lowered the glass transition temperature of PVC. The introduction of PPA could decrease tensile strength and Young’s modulus of the PVC/PPA blends; however, elongation-at-break was dramatically increased due to the plastic deformation. The plasticization effect of PPA was also manifested by the decrease of dynamic storage modulus and viscosity in the melt state of the blends.The results indicated that PPA had a good plasticizing effect on PVC.2. By blending DGBEA with PVC, the blends samples containing different amount of DGBEA were prepared. Tensile test, dynamic mechanical, and rheological properties were tested. The blends samples show properties of typical rubber state plastic, the tensile strength decreased and the breaking elongation is enhanced expeditiously with the increasing of DGBEA content. Glass transition temperature(Tg)of the blends samples decreased signficantly with the increasing of DGBEA content.Processing performance of PVC was improved with the addition of DGBEA.
