Acquiring steel liquid level position accurately plays an important role in RH steel-making process. The current steel-making process, the steel liquid level position is artificial subjective by macroscopic observation to determine whether appropriate, so the working efficiency will naturally not be too high. In order to improve the deficiencies of the steel-making process, people also try to use methods such as laser ranging, infrared distance to determine steel liquid level position, but because of the molten steel the material itself has a strong radiation, which would absorb infrared energy, so it is impossible to determine the position on the surface of the steel liquid. Aiming at the particularity of steel liquid, this paper presents a calculation method of ladle rising height which based on image processing technology. The height of the ladle can be increased by two effects: steel liquid level height and the volume of the snorkel. This article mainly includes the following aspects:First, the choice of digital image measuring system. In the whole digital measurement system,the industrial camera occupies an important position. Get a good industrial scene picture has laid a good foundation for further image processing. At present, two kinds of industrial cameras are CCD and CMOS. This paper compares the performance parameters of these two types of industrial cameras, and finally chooses the CCD(Baumer) TXG03 industrial camera.Second, the height of steel liquid level measurement. In this paper, first on the steel ladle image pre-processing, including image registration, geometric rotation, gray level transformation,the second value, morphological changes, through the detection of the various edge operator,decided to use Sobel operator to detect the edge of the upper end of the ladle and steel liquid level edge. After get the edge, by using the method of least squares fitting out steel drum and steel liquid level on the edge of the elliptic curve, and then establish a two-dimensional coordinate system, solving the steel liquid level height.Third, calculate the volume of the snorkel. Snorkel equipment is important to complete the cycle of liquid steel, but in the process of use, it’s surface will condense more slag, which affects a large steel fluid level rises, it must calculate it’s volume. In this paper, through image processing technology, the first to snorkel image pre-processing, finally through level around the edge point method to calculate the snorkel diameter, and then calculate the volume of the snorkel.Fourth, the calculation of the steel ladle can be increased. In front part of the paper, through the image processing algorithm calculated the liquid level of steel liquid, and snorkel volume,calculated the height of the ladle can be increased.Fifth, the liquid steel package secondary lifting height calculation. According to RH refining process requirements, after the beginning of the cycle of refining, liquid steel packet is secondary ascension to accomplish the refining process.In this paper,through the image processing algorithm to calculate the steel liquid to drum edge distance, to assist engineers to complete the steel ladle lifting.From the image processing results in this paper, the method can be applied to automatic process,but the system requires absolutely safe and reliable, practical use need to be careful.Finally proposed the summary and outlook, hope the pre-research project in the concrete can be more optimized.
