In People's Daily production and life often used in a variety of tank, such as chemical plant storage tank, gas boiler drum, casting mold search for the sprue cup and reservoir, etc. After the liquid level in the tank is measured, the liquid capacity in the tank can be determined, and targeted adjustments can be made to achieve stable production. Thus,it is very important to accurately measure the liquid level of the tank.At present, the tools used in the liquid level measurement include float type liquid level meter, radar type liquid level meter and pressure type liquid level meter. However, the above level gauge is easily interfered by environmental factors and has some errors. But the liquid level detection based on image processing technology can overcome this defect. In this paper, the relevant research literature at home and abroad were summarized, based on the basic characteristics of tank level, and the application of image processing,a new tank level detection system was designed. In this paper, multiple image preprocessing methods such as grayscale, morphological filtering and edge detection are applied to preprocess the collected images. Then, corner detection algorithm and mean shift algorithm are used to obtain the height of liquid level. Finally, the final test is carried out on the established platform.Experimental results show that the mean shift algorithm is less robust than the corner detection algorithm. In the case of impurities or bubbles in the liquid that cannot be removed by the pretreatment algorithm, the detection results generated by these two algorithms will be interfered. In terms of computing speed, the mean shift algorithm obviously surpasses the corner detection algorithm.
