Fundamental investigations of effective methods of thermal energy storage have been significantly intensified since the first energy crisis in the world, with numerous countries commencing development programs of power systems utilising non-conventional energy sources at both the national and international level. Phase change materials(PCMs) are of some superiority over sensible heat storage materials such as very high specific heat and energy storage density, and also they are able theoretically to change state at constant temperature and therefore store large quantities of energy, so PCMs have been applied in more and more fields due to its important role in energy storage. However, the samplex PCMs have many kinds of drawbacks and can not be used straightly, thus there are significant points in the development of phase change material applications to study the preparation of composite phase change materials. In this study, the cheap and abundant paraffin was used as PCM to prepare paraffinmontmorillonite composite phase change pigments(PMPCP) and then the PMPCP was used to make phase change coatings and then the phase change coatings was applied in coated duplex board. And also the paraffin microcapsules PCM was also prepared. The modification technology method of montmorillonite(MMT), the preparation and characterization of the PMPCP and the paraffin microcapsules PCM were studied. Besides, the preliminary study of the properties of the coated duplex board coated by the phase change coatings was also performed. And the samples were detected and characterized by means of FT-IR, XRD, TGA,DSC, SEM and so on.The results showed that: The interlamellar spacing of MMT was expanded from 1.288 nm to 2.012 nm after the modification of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide(CTAB); The best method of MMT modification is 2.0 Cation Exchange Capacity(1.7 mmol/g MMT) addition of CTAB, 75 ℃ and 2 hours; When the mass ratio of the modified montmorillonite(CTAB-MMT) and paraffin was 1, the PM-PCM was prepared with a paraffin content of47.7% and enthalpy of 46.8 J/g, while the ratio was decreased to 0.5, the PM-PCM was prepared with a paraffin content of 52.2% and enthalpy of 68.4 J/g; When the amount ofemulsifier in the emulsion system is 5%(w%), the co-emulsifier for the emulsion system is2%(w%), reaction temperature is 85 ℃, reaction time is 30 min, a good dispersion, high stability, high solids content paraffin emulsion can be formed; In the preparation process of paraffin microcapsules, when the ratio of core and wall is 0.5, the paraffin microcapsules were formed with phase change enthalpy value of 59.74 J/g, while the ratio is 1, the paraffin microcapsules are formed with enthalpy value of 110.82 J/g; When the phase change coatings consists of PMPCP of 10%(w%), the phase change temperature of the prepared phase change coatings is 55℃, and the phase change enthalpy value is 2.2 J/g, After coated by the phase change coatings, the coated duplex board can not only save energy in some degree, but also have a raletive good moisture resistance.
