Jien nickel industry have developed a carbonyl nickel powder production technology with high grade nickel as raw material at atmospheric pressure in 2007, later this process ceased to operate because of higher iron content in the raw material. Jien nickel industry proposed a new technology with nickel oxide to produce high grade nickel carbonyl powder in 2011. As the cost of raw material of nickel oxide is high and the nickel hydroxide raw material cost is low and stable supply, the company began to develop the preparation technology of carbonyl nickel in 2013 with the nickel hydroxide as raw material and to operate industrialization. At present, the accomplishment of carbonyl nickel powder preparation technology with nickel hydroxide as raw materials is innovative in domestic.This paper developed a new process of preparation of nickel carbonyl with the nickel hydroxide as raw materials in laboratory scale and successfully tested in industrial production, the new process will install new drying and calcinating furnace for the dehydration of nickel hydroxide to produce nickel oxide, and then the nickel oxide will be reduced to active elemental nickel with hydrogen in a reduction furnace, the active nickel will be presulfided with a special material and then feed into the carbonylation reactor for nickel carbonyl synthesis, and then enter the carbonyl nickel decomposer, get different types of carbonyl nickel powder by controlling carbonylation parameters,such as carbonyl nickel volume flow rate, concentration, and the temperature of the decomposer in different zones.Production results show that the yield of nickel carbonyl nickel powder by this technology can reach 80%, nickel recovery reached to 99.5%, product quality to meet the international quality standards of similar products. Production process running smoothly,The production cost of nickel powder will decrease 5,500 yuan / ton than that of the formal process, which can increase the benefit of 5.5 million yuan a year. The results will promote further increasing of production capacity, optimization of process parameters, further reduce the production cost of carbonyl nickel powder.
