Condenser is an important equipment of conventional island turbine in nuclear powerplant. Both economy and operation security of the unit are greatly affected by condenservacuum.Tube bundle arrangement is the most important part in condenser design. As all theauxiliary equipments including circulating water pump and vacuum pump are in normalworking, condenser vacuum is mainly decided by heat transfer performance of tubebundle. Therefore, condenser thermodynamic performance is greatly influence by thelayout of tube bundle.In condenser design and manufacturing industry of power plant, all famous foreigncompanies have their own bundle arrangement patent. At present, tube bundlearrangement technologies adopted by domestic condenser company are imported fromthese foreign companies, but always limited by copyright.This work presents the research of a new tube bundle–tree form tube bundlearrangement. First,the quantity of cooling tubes can be determined firstly by thecalculation of total heat transfer coefficient, and the rudiment tube bundle is formed by thearrangement of cooling tube in condenser shell. Then, with numerical method, thedistribution of heat duty, velocity field, pressure drop, air concentration and heat transfercoefficient, etc. can be studied and analyzed. The optimization of tube bundle arrangementwas made with former numerical results, and better structure was finally achieved byrepeated iteration. The technology has reached the same level of design of the foreignnuclear power condenser, and has been successfully applied to actual nuclear powercondenser design.The tree form tube bundle has several characteristics: each tube bundle has arespective air cooling zone; steam lanes in each tube bundle and adjacent tube bundles arereasonable, steam is distributed uniformly to all tubes, avoid vortex, lower pressure losses;the steam required for deaeration of the condensate is routed down the lanes adjacent tubebundles directly to the lower part of the tube bundle, lower hotwell condensate depression. Successfully developing the tree form tube bundle provides an important technicalsupport for design and manufacturing of condenser.
