We often experience the mountain barriers and the other issues when highway constructions are buliding in most areas of the hills and mountain areas in our country. If the line conditions can not be avoided, we usually choose to get through by cutting slope. This requires cutting slope in the road service life is stable and secure within the state, particularly in the reinforcement of slope required to fully consider the long-term process stability. It is difficult to evaluate the long-term stability of the cutting slopes of Liu (yang) Li (Ling) Highway because these of the joint slate was developed. First, the composition and structure of slate are analysed from the microscopic point of view. Sceond its conventional mechanical tests are to do,mainly including dry and saturated uniaxial compressive strength test and the compression deformation experiment. The joint plane of the slates is tested to acquire the peak shear strength and residual strength, as well as the physical properties of water in slate aue studied. Meanwhile the uniaxial compression creep is carried out for slates, and Burgers model is simulated slates creep constitutive equation to calculate the creep parameters based on the experiment. The joint surfaces of the typical slate high slope are statistics and grouped to obtain advantage joints surface through the geological survey. Finally, by the UDEC program, the long-term stability of the typical slate high slope is analysed, and the maximum unbalanced force in the slope and displacement convergence indicate the slope is stable in the long term security.
