In the Wenchuan earthquake2008. most of the damage of multilayer frame structures is the destruction of frame column, namely the strong beam and weak column failure mechanism, but not the damage of strong column and weak beam failure mechanism. There are many factors that affect the failure mechanism of concrete frame structures, such as over reinforced beams, fill walls, poured concrete slabs. Many scholars study the influencing factors, there is no unified conclusion so far because of the uncertainty factors.Seismic code expects to achieve strong column and weak beam failure mechanism through the control of the relative flexural capacity of the beam ends and column ends, the calculation form is the moment augment factor of columns, after the earthquake, China modifies the seismic code timely, improving the moment augment factor of columns. In this paper, we design and analysis a frame structure for example, the result shows that improving the moment augment factor of columns can improve the failure mechanism of concrete frame structure in some degree, but can not really make the frame structure achieve the failure mechanism of strong column and weak beam.Improving the moment augment factor of columns is from the level of structure members only. In fact, the failure mechanism of the multilayer frame structures under seismic action is decided by the structure system. The deformation action of multilayer frame structures in horizontal earthquake is shear deformation, and the overall shear failure form is the mechanism of interface fracture, namely strong beam and weak column failure mechanism. In order to change its failure mechanism from the structure system view, we set a certain number of shear walls in the frame structure, formed frame structures with few shear walls. The main purpose of the structure is to solve the problem that really makes the frame structures achieve strong column and weak beam failure mechanism.Paragraph6.1.3of the seismic code (GB50011-2010) puts forward the frame structures with few shear walls, but the boundaries division is not clear. This paper discusses the arrangement of the few shear walls in the frame structures, initially defines a reasonable amount of shear walls that make the frame structures achieve strong column and weak beam failure mechanism. The results show that frame structures with few shear walls can ensure the formation of the strons column and weak beam failure mechanism.
