Based on the finite element analysis software ADINA, the seismic resistance of areinforced concrete frame structure with6layers was analyzed. Three numerical quasi-static and dynamic earthquake response models with different joints were established.Combined with the theorys like Finite element analysis, Advanced reinforced concretetheory and Aseismic engineering, the study focuses on the effective width of monolithicslab, failure mechanism of traditional joint, failure characteristics of joint with slot, lateral stiffness of the whole structure and changing of the deflection for slab in key.Typical earthquake damage about frame columns was investigated: Failures incolumns are much heavier than those in beams;frame beams are safe during the drasticearthquake action. The yielding of longitudinal bars in columns, broken of stirrups, tilt ofthe floorslab and failures of the columns in the first floor will lead to the collapse of thewhole structure. More attention should be paid on the earthquake damage in columns. Many existing structural failure modes in earthquakes were weak column-strongbeam, while hinges occur on the columns first, which is significantly different to theexpectance. For the joint with slot around, the yielding time of beam reinforce bar willshift to an earlier time, the occurrence of plastic hinge on beam will also advance. Energythat inputing to the structure would be consumed, while the number of cracks on columnbecomes less. Time interval between the occurrence of plastic hinge on beam and columnbecomes longer. The occurrence of plastic pivot in columns on the first floor would bedelayed, which exhibits a failure mechanism closer to the whole structure mode. There are many profits for using the ADINA to do dynamic time history analysis onthe whole structure. Diversities between the quasi-static loads and the actual earthquakescould be avoided and error in the results derived from Vibration-Table experiments couldbe eliminated. Through the research, the effects of the method could be seen; referencesfor the ductility design and retrofitting about architectural structures also could be derived.
