The research of interaction between tire and ground is of great theoretical andpractical significance to improve the traverse capability of the vehicle on softground.Based on the heavy-load construction vehicle tire16/70-2014R, consideringgeometry, material and contact nonlinear factors of tire and soil, this paper constructedthe simulation model of interaction between tire and ground with the ABAQUS finiteelement simulation platform, and conducted in-depth analysis of the basic mechanism ofinteraction between the tire and ground.Acoundingly, this paper put forward somesuggestions on how to improve the traverse capability of the vehicle on soft ground.Themain results are as follows:(1) Taking into account the complexity of tire finite element modeling, based onthe tire structural features and functions, the FE model of the2-D tire was establishedby reasonable simplifying assumptions. The material parameters of parts of the tire wereobtained with the equivalent parameter optimization method, providing a new methodfor the tire FE modeling.(2) The simulation model of the tire static pressure test was established, anddetailed analysis of relationship between the tire defomation, stress/strain, tire sinkageand changes in tire load and pressure was conducted. The simulation results andmeasured results in reference literatures matched well, verifying the validity of the tireFE modeling method in the paper.(3) The elastic-palstic constitutive model of soil for vehicle driving was studied, using the Drucker—Prager yield criterion to simulate soil properties, and three groundtypes of sand, loam and gravel were established based on the actual soil object of thisstudy. Considering geometry, material and contact nonlinear factors of tire and soil, thesimulation model of interaction between tire and ground was established.(4) Four key factors including soil type and tire pressure, load and speed wereconsidered to affect mechanical properties of tire-soil interaction, and a combination ofmulti-factor simulation conditions were suggested.By simulation analysis, thequantitative relationship between these factors and a variety of indicators wereobtained, which included the radial deformation of tire, the average ground pressure, theslip rate, the approach angle and departure angle, and soil subsidence. The basic law andthe internal mechanism of the tire-soil interaction while vehicles traveling on softground were studyed through in-depth analysis. And the validity of the simulationmodel of tire-soil interaction in this paper was assured. The simulation results were ofcertain reference value to future research on traverse capability of the vehicle travelingon soft ground. (5) According to the FE simulation results, targeted on the controllable factors invehicle driving, measures on how to improve the traverse capability of the vehicle onsoft ground were explored from the aspects of tire parameters and driving conditions, which is worthy to apply in engineering projects.
