Wing-in-ground effect vehicles (WIG) have drawn attention of the nations all over the world dueto its safety, economical and higher aerodynamic efficiency. Based on the pre-research of subsequentdevelopment model of "Angel Bird" WIG, the application research of canard configuration in WIG ispresented in this thesis by conducting the preliminary design of a12-seated WIG with canardconfiguration (AB612).Firstly, the characteristics of WIG, it’s development status and application prospect is introducedbriefly. Secondly, the design requirements are made based on the operating requirements. The take-offweight, the power-weight ratio, the wing loading is estimated and the engine is chosen with themethod of engineering experience. The parametric model of AB612is developed in CATIA. Thefuselage is preliminarily designed. The aerodynamic configuration is optimized with ISIGHT, aMultidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) software, to achieve the highest lift-drag ratio. Then,the stabilator and control surface is also premilinarily designed.The configuration of the whole planewas finially fixed. The weights of the various components and the centre of gravity of the whole craftwere calculated and located. The longitudinal stability and longitudinal trimmed characteristics werealso computed. Lastly, based on the configurations of canard and wing, which has been fixed by theoptimization, we conduct the numerical computation of aerodynamic characteristics under differentlocations of the canard to analyze the effect of canard locations in a wing-in-ground flight.
