Plate-fin heat exchanger is a compact heat exchanger with high heat transfer efficiency, lightweight and rigid structure, which has wide adaptability, as well as good economy and othercharacteristics. Recently, plate-fin heat exchanger has rapidly developed and been applied in theaerospace, shipbuilding, automobile engines, air conditioners and other civilian areas. As the plate-fin heat exchangers have been widely used in various fields, its mechanicalproperties and analysis have become an important research topic. Based on structural forms of theplate-fin heat exchange, it can be recognized as metal sandwich plates, the mechanical properties canbe obtained from equivalent metal plate-fin sandwich plates by experimental measurements,closed-form solutions and finite element analysis. Ultimately, the results from the analysis will beapplied to the actual projects and solve practical engineering problems. In this paper, based on the basic theory of previous studies of corrugated metal sandwichstructure, mechanical parameters of sandwich plate-fin heat exchanger is derived from the unifiedmechanical model, the serrated fin sandwich structure consisting of upper and lower panels arerecognized as cell element equivalent model, and mechanical parameters can be derived from the cellelement model, which can be used as an input parameter in the finite element analysis work.Based on the actual structure of the plate-fin heat exchanger sandwich structure, it can beassumed that the upper and lower surface of sandwich panels are composed of isotropic and equalthickness material, and core of the plate is composed of orthotropic fin, and then the plate vibrationequation and natural frequency of plate-fin heat exchangers can be derived, and provide theformulation of the natural frequency of the sandwich plate under edges simply supported conditions. This paper summarizes various of equivalent methods of metal sandwich structure, based on theuse of theoretical analysis, finite element analysis, experimental testing and other methods, the finalresults are compared and analyzed to establish the most suitable equivalent model and theory forplate-fin heat. According to the specific examples, the natural frequency of the sandwich structure andstatic analysis are completed. All the results proved that the effectiveness and adaptability of theequivalent methods is obvious and accepted.
