Water transmission and distribution system is a basic facility to the residents’production and living, and it is also the key to social and economic development. Infact the status quo of water resources in our country is the shortage of resources andthe uneven distribution of time and space, water supply and water demand ofresidents has forced that long-distance water transmission has become a necessarystep to ensure the water supply in life. In long distance water conveyance project, thechange of water pump speed or cardiac arrest, or the sudden closure of the valve canoften happen, in the same time water hammer accident easily occurs, especially in thehigh gravity flow of long-distance water conveyance, water hammer problem is moreoutstanding. The causes of water hammer are various, solutions are also different, inthe meantime, different solution has different effect.This paper mainly introduces the water hammer problems in high gravity flowunder the condition of large elevation difference, including the characteristics of allkinds of plant measures for decreasing the occurrence of water hammer, whichfocuses on the effective water hammer protection device box-type two-way surge tank,and different measures under this scheme, as well as the effect of water hammerprotection. Through scheme comparison, we can draw a conclusion about theoptimization of water hammer protection measures, which is guidance for the highgravity flow of elevation difference.This paper generally introduces the history of water hammer problems in Chinaand abroad, explains air movement in the booster of the pipes, harm and exhaust pipe.In the process of argumentation, this article combines the Daxigou water transmissionproject in Xinjiang and Atushi water conveyance project in Inner Mongolia as twotypical examples. By water hammer calculation method of characteristic line transientprocess which carried out on the engineering example of computer simulation, we getthe results that in the big gravity flow water conveyance process, by combiningreduced pressure constant pressure valve and box-type two-way surge tank, andadopting measures to uniform close the valve at the end of the combination, waterhammer problem can effectively be solved, at the same time we can take segmentedhydroelectric energy dissipation, making use of the gravitational potential energy ofwater. We can guarantee the safety of water conveyance and energy efficient conversion. This paper focuses on the optimization of big gravity flow in water pipeand has reference value for the water hammer protection.
