With the globalizing of economic development and the frequently changing of economicand cultural, more human social activities happened in various public places and the publicsecurity problems of personnel-intensive areas have attracted great attentions. Railway stationand station square is the modern urban traffic hub including freight, passenger, entertainment, and business and it has higher density of personnel and logistics. If unexpected incidentsoccur in these areas, evacuating personnel to safe areas will be the important links ofevacuating successfully, preventing accidents spread and reducing group accidents andinjuries probabilities. So, study on emergency evacuation problems of railway stations andstation squares have higher theoretical significance and practical value. Based on analysis ofcurrent research, assessment studies on emergency evacuation capability of railway stationsand station squares were as follows:First of all, related characteristics were studied based on practical situations of railwaystations, including definition of personnel-intensive areas, accident types and characteristicsin railway station squares, emergency evacuation features and contents of personnel-intensiveareas in railway station squares. Second, based on risk factors identification ofpersonnel-intensive areas in railway stations, assessment indexes system of emergencyevacuation capability of personnel-intensive areas for railway station squares was established.Again, an emergency evacuation assessment model of personnel-intensive areas for railwaystation was established, including indexes values determination based on the risk matrix, index weight calculation using entropy method and dynamic assessment model based onentropy method and grey correlation. Finally, the emergency evacuation capability assessmentmodel was applied and verified in Xi’an railway station square. Based on assessment results,a number of recommendations to strengthen emergency evacuation capability of Xi’an railway station square were made and they provided some references for enhancingemergency evacuation capability of railway station squares and continuous improving ofsafety management.Aimed at present situation of personnel-intensive areas in railway stations andcombining entropy method and grey correlation measure, evaluation method of researchingemergency evacuation capability of personnel-intensive areas in railway station was studied. This method can provide basis for eliminating potential evacuation problems of railwaystation. It can also provide reference for government and railway station managementdepartment getting daily safety management state of personnel-intensive areas in railwaystations and carrying out macroscopic monitoring, which has a certain practical value.
