Tower is the main load-bearing structure of wind turbine generators, it is especiallyimportant to ensure the safety and reliability. The frustum type tower drum is widely adoptedin international wind-power market. However, with the maximization of wind turbinegenerators,the performance-price ratio of frustum type tower drum is decreased and theproblem of transportation is increasingly outstanding. Hence, it is very important in theory andpractice that new type tower structure is researched.According to the background of1.5MW wind turbine tower on Wuchuan wind farm inInner Mongolia, this paper simulates the pulsating wind load, analyzes the wind-inducedvibration response of tower under fluctuating wind and compares with response under staticwind action to determine the calculation method of wind load for cable-tower design. Underthe same conditions with cone type tower, this paper designs a1.5MW cable-tower windtubine tower, and optimizes it with first-order optimization method. Finally, The paper hasconducted comparative analysis of cable-tower wind tubine tower and frustum type tower.Study proves that the wind power spectrum simulated with liner filtering method is ingood agreement with the target power spectrum, it is precise and feasible to simulate windload with liner filtering method.Under the rated condition, the maximum stress anddisplacement of top of tower based on time history method increased1.36times、1.05timesrespectively. Under storm conditions, the maximum stress and displacement of top of towerbased on time history method increased1.47times、1.31times respectively.It is more reliableto calculate wind load with time history method when design a wind tubine tower, For cabletower wind tubine tower, the wind load can provide basis for the design of cable-tower windtubine.For cable tower wind tubine tower,when the angle between cable and ground is35.2°,the height of cable is28.9m, the cable tension is200kN,the tower stability is best and thebottom bending moment is smallest.Cable can improve tower stiffness significantly,displacement of the cable tower wind tubine tower is decreased by40%than cone type tower drum, first order frequency increased by19%. Through optimizing design, the bottomdiameter is reduced to3.5m by4m, utilization rate of steel strength increased by36%, steelconsumption reduced by15%, concrete foundation consumption reduced by45%, total costreduced by20%.The research achievement of cable tower wind tubine tower can provide scientific andrational basis for the design and extension of high power cable tower wind tubine tower.
