Under the circumstances of the world economy have been developing steadily in recent years, global car production and sales have continued to increase, car not only as a transport to take changes to people’s lives, but also brought many troubles like air pollution, energy shortages. As the important parts of Car Engine, piston ring plays an significant part in sealing gas, adjusting oil, deliverying heat and supporting the piston. Its performance directly affects the engine’s fuel consumption and emissions, therefore, the study of the performance of the piston ring helps to cut down fuel oil cost and waste gas production, enhance the nature of the engine.This paper focuses on the function of the piston rings were studied and analyzed, from the meaning of the various parameters of piston rings to a variety of different cross-sectional shapes of the usefulness of the piston ring, from the role of piston ring to a variety of sports to the way, the article has made a detailed introduction. Related studies found that the piston ring tension is positive correlation to the engine fuel consumption, the lower the tension, the less fuel consumption; At the same time, fuel consumption is associated with the servo coefficient K of piston ring, the larger the K value, the lower oil consumption. Therefore, the paper using the data about the design of piston ring which from the US,Europe and Japan to optimize the existing ring’s tension,ring high, the follow-up coefficient K and the radial thickness to make it has the effect of saving energy and reducing consumption.This article discusses the various types of piston ring radial pressure distribution, and determines the piston ring radial pressure distribution curve, and then according to the related theory to determine the piston ring free form curve, making a basic for3d modeling. In this paper, through the Pro/E modeling, and using the ANSYS WORKBENCH analysis the model to simulate the temperature field, distribution of stress field and coupling field, to find out the location of the risk model and estimate its fatigue life, validated the majorization results.Through the study and analysis of the article, it provides the theoretical basis and the reference suggestion to the improvement of the performance and the optimization of the structure of piston ring and a certain guiding significance for the actual production and the reference value.
