Traditional motor drive system has the problem of low precision, loud noise, severewear for the use of mechanical gearbox. Motor direct-drive system can avoid thoseproblem by setting the load on the motor’s shaft directly. Transverse flux motor has amagnetic path which is perpendicular to the rotation direction, it can easily increase theelectric load and magnetic load at the same time, so it has extensive application for lowspeed and high torque direct-drive motor system. This paper presents a transverse-fluxflux reversal motor (TF-FRM) structure, and then it uses both magnetic circuit and3D-FEM method to analyze the relationship between motor parameters and torque density.First of all, a transverse-flux flux reversal motor is presented, which has permanentmagnet on the teeth face of the stator and simple rotor. The basic operating principle oftransverse-flux flux reversal motor is analyzed, the mathematical model of this typemotor is established by using3D magnetic circuit model. The compute method ofinductance, the equation of the no-load back EMF and torque is given.Secondly, based on the result of magnetic circuit analysis, the3D finite elementmodel of TR-FRM is built to analyze the influnce of the structural parameters to themotor’s torque density. Some modification of the mathematical model is made by the3D-FEM analysis results. At last, based on the summary of the analysis results of both finite element modeland mathematical model, the main dimensions formula of the motor is derived, then thepreliminary design method is studied. A prototype modle is designed and manufactured,a detailed manufacturing processing of the main components of the motor is given. Theplatform of motor is established and some basic experiments are done to verify themathematical model and simulation results.
