The linear motor can drive the load do rectilinear motion without anyconversion device, mostly applied in semiconductor manufacturing, numericalcontrol machine, electromagnetic aircraft launch system, LCD manufacturing andother fields, making the system as a whole high efficiency, high precision, highspeed, high reliability, and many other advantages. In this paper, the proposedtransverse flux-flux reversal linear machine belongs to a new structure of reluctancelinear motor with permanent magnet on the primary. The secondary consists only ofelectrical steels and nonmagnetic fixed plate. The secondary structure is simple. Forlong stroke applications this kind machine can reduce the cost, improve the systemreliability. This paper mainly research on the content of the following sections:First of all, the structure of the transverse flux-flux reversal linear machine isput forward. Based on the analysis of magnetic circuit changes the operationprinciple of this kind machine is explained. Through a simple magnetic networkmodel of the machine magnetic circuit, the basic equation is derived to establish themathematical model of the machine, and the machine’s basic characteristics isanalyzed.Then, by finite element method (FEM) analysis is made on the structureparameters of motor. For maximum machine’s thrust density as the goal, analysis ofmotor pole pitch, secondary tooth width, primary tooth width and thickness of thepermanent magnet, air-gap length and the other influence of main structureparameters on the machine thrust density, and optimize the machine’s detent forceand power factor.Finally, through analysis on characteristics of the machine and the simulationoptimization results, a design process suitable for TF-FRLM is summed up. In viewof the results a prototype is designed and developed, and the prototype’s back EMF,detent force, static thrust is measured, compared with the theoretical value to verifythe correctness of the design method.
