Electric hammer is a common power tools which drilling in brittle materials suchas concrete and brick wall. Electric hammer create a great force by means of impactbetween the impact parts. it is a kind of typical impact machines. The impact parts oflongitudinal size is much bigger than lateral dimensions, as to the collision problem inthe working process, only the theory of wave mechanics can we obtain satisfactoryexplanation. Therefore, it is valuable both in theory and practice to study electrichammer impact process with theory of wave mechanics. In this paper, research work around electric hammer impact system by the theoryof wave mechanics, and the main research work are as follows:1. Ternary impact system dynamic model of an electric hammer is establishedbased on structure characteristics and wave mechanics. A numerical simulationmethod is proposed for the electric hammer impact system by means of transmissionand reflection relations theory. Numerical simulation program is compiled for theelectric hammer impact system based on matlab numerical calculation software.2. Electric hammer impact experiment system is built to test the stress wave inthe drill bit. A series of methods of signal processing are presented based on thecharacters of impact signal which only keeps for a short time but changes swiftly.3. Parameter identification method of correlation coefficient are presented basedon the characters of impact surface characteristic parameters which is difficult todirectly determine. The method mentioned above is applied to the identification ofimpact surface characteristic parameters the electric hammer impact system.4. Experimental waveforms and simulation waveform are compared in the drill attwo different locations, the results showed that the numerical simulation program ofthe electric hammer impact system are effective and accurate.5. Matching relationship is discussed among punch hammer, drill and workingmedium by using the numerical simulation program of the electric hammer impactsystem. In order to improve the stress of the drill and increase the drilling efficiencyof the electric hammer impact system, the structure of the drill is optimized accordingto the propagation law of stress wave. The conclusions are instructive to dynamics analysis and optimal design forelectric hammer impact systems.
