Incandescent bulbs, fluorescent lamps and high pressure gas discharge lamps havebeen gradually replaced by Light Emitting Diode (LED), due to its energy-saving,environment-protection, long lifetime and many other advantages. Therefore, it hasbecome a new generation of green lighting source. However, with rapid increase of theheat flux, the heat dissipation becomes a key problem of restricting its development.LED encapsulation structure and heat dissipation method were analyzed in detail,and then the traditional crimping material between the substrate and the heat sink wasimproved. A new-type12WLED bulbs was proposed to replace the traditional100Wincandescent bulb, based on the cold spray technology and the integrated design ofaluminous heat sink.Firstly, the COB structure was investigated. Meanwhile, simulation was performedby ANSYS to obtain the temperature fields with the different copper circuit layers. Anew structure without the copper substrate encapsulation combined with the cold gasdynamic spray technology was proposed, which was proved to be better than traditionalCOB structure. Furthermore, one optimal heat sink was exploited to meet the variousrequirements by designing, analyzing and comparing. The heat sink structure wasconstructed by SOLIDWORKS and the temperature fields of the optimal heat sink weresimulated by EFD. Additionally, the simulated results were verified by the experiments.Finally, the complete12WLED bulb instead of100W incandescent bulb could satisfythe heat dissipation requirements and lighting habits. Compared with the existing LEDbulbs, this new-type LED bulb has peculiar characteristics of little volume, light weight,low cost and easy processing. It will provide a new route to design the LED bulbs withexcellent performance.
