A long-term large manned space station is the third step of our country’s manned space program.Space rendezvous and docking is an important part of the space station, the function involves in-orbitassembly of the space station a cabin, load handling and on-orbit maintenance. Docking system is theexecutive component of the space rendezvous and docking mission, installed on the active and thetarget spacecraft, assume the task of the mechanical connection, sealing, electrical connections andchannel formation.The design of the low impact docking system(LIDS) is introduced in this paper, based on theneeds of the docking task of Chinese future space station and also compared to foreign dockingsystem, then analyzed Mathematical model and simulated its function by FEM.Firstly, the work principle of the low impact docking system and the detailed design of thevarious components of the docking system were demonstrated according to the design requirements.Secondly, the forward and reverse position, the working space and the working precision of the lowimpact docking system are analyzed through mathematical methods. Thirdly, the kinematicssimulation analysis of the virtual prototype low impact docking system were introduced through themechanical system motion analysis software MSC.Adams, the parameters and function superiority ofthe low impact docking system lock specific are obtained. In order to determine its hazardous parts,the simulation of the low impact docking system under the action of load and its static structuralanalysis are conducted by finite element software. Finally, this paper presents the modal analysis ofthe docking ring of the low impact docking system in the docking state. The analysis results show thatthe low impact docking system meet the functional requirements of the space docking mission,connection stiffness is enough, power and signal connection is reliable, and also meet therequirements of its structural strength and stiffness in the work status with a high level of reliability.The results of this study provide references for the design of the new generation docking system forChinese future space rendezvous and docking.
